It was “Gary” who came to replace a worn, but still functioning cylinder lock and handle, which had lost it’s spring return. He told me “Nick” had retired and was no longer involved in the business and it showed. I asked him twice what the charge would be and he stated £115, which I thought acceptable (even though no mention of the pensioner discount, which I would have been eligible for). After attempting to fit two unsuitable cylinders, which I had to point out, he fitted one that was slightly longer that the original one, but just about acceptable. I realised the door handle section would be more difficult to find a replacement and that’s why I called Locking Locksmiths. “Gary” took photos and measurements in order to find the correct one. If it was just the cylinder, I could have done that. He then asked for payment for what he had done - £70 call-out charge and £30 for the cylinder. I paid him the £100 in cash. That meant I owed him £15 after he had installed the door handle. A week later and no word from “Gary” I rang, to be told he was very busy with “Estate Agents”, etc. but would visit a couple of days later and would ring to confirm. Although he did not ring to confirm, he did visit on the day advised, but when I was out and my wife dealt with him. The handle he installed was not spring loaded and he told my wife it was all he could get and for that needed £20 instead of the £15 originally stated, which my wife duly handed over! The realisation from this experience of retired Nick’s Locking Locksmiths reputable business is that “Gary is not coping and Nick’s high standards have diminished considerably. If, as “Gary” states that Nick has retired, then surely the website is no longer valid – the whole company has revolved around Nick’s competence and expertise, which from my experience “Gary” is no longer up to. I gave 2 stars for turning up and sort of doing the job.
